2nd July 1996 Summer Evening Permanent Way Scrap Recovery Train

Back in the summer of 1996 the P-Way set off on a Tuesday evening recovering scrap along the NYMR. This was hauled by Class 24 diesel loco D5032, with driving duty shared by Allan Birkin and Les Barwick. On the way back, a hotbox was discovered on the Lowmac wagon. After some temporary work was carried out, the train finally made its way back to Pickering. Photos taken by the late Allan Birkin.
